However, please remember that even the best juicing for weight loss recipes and tips won't be a magic weight loss 'pill'. It needs to become part of an overall change (more about this later), involving aspects such as...

making smarter shopping choices
stocking your kitchen with delicious, wholesome foods
avoiding processed junk foods
fun and healthy extra activity
drinking enough water

You need a strategy that is doable and can be sustained for life. That's what I am here for. This is not about going on another diet. It is about creating a healthy, juicy lifestyle you and your family can follow for life!


Does This Have To Do With Fasting, Detoxing Or Cleansing?

Not as such, no. A 'cleanse' or a 'fast' is something you do for a period and then it ends.

I believe that, generally speaking, your body is highly efficient when it comes to your always-active natural detoxification systems. Your liver, kidneys, lungs and skin are all involved in this ongoing process.

My aim here is not to get you to try and live on juice and no solid food, but to show you how to incorporate juicing into a healthy eating plan. In doing so, you will be boosting your body with a wide variety of nutrients. This in turn can help the natural detoxification or 'cleansing' processes in your body to function optimally.

Now, if you are healthy, you can decide give your whole digestive system a short break by drinking only juice for a day or two at a time. Or you can use a freshly prepared veggie juice as a meal replacement from time to time. But, if you have any ailment, are on medication, are pregnant or are nursing, please don't do this without your doctor's okay. And always schedule it over the weekend when you can take things easy.

I don't recommend going on an extended juice fast without medical supervision. This can be downright dangerous and may create all sorts of havoc in your body.

The main reason why juicing so often gets a bad rap from doctors and nutritionists, is precisely because it has become associated with detoxing and 'cleanses'. This makes juicing sound like just another unhealthy, unsustainable passing 'fad'... one of the maddening juicing myths I debunk here.

I believe that we need healthy, balanced and wholesome meals. Take away all those mouth-watering aromas, flavors, textures and heavenly tastes that come with healthy solid food and see what happens...

Don't be surprised if your body starts to develop a whole host of new super-strong food cravings while saying to itself, "Where on earth has all that yummy, chewy food I have always enjoyed, gone? I want it back!"

The weight you will lose with a juice fast will also mainly be water weight... not what you want to see. This will just come back once you start to eat again.

Juicing as I know it is not a gimmick, a fad, or a diet you go 'on' and then go 'off' again at some point. It is something we as a family have been doing daily for around two decades! And I have never, ever needed to go on a 'diet' or count calories.


What Are The Best Fat-Burning Vegetables For Juicing?

Are there really fat-burning vegetables and fruits? Yes!:-) One particular group of veggies is known for its fat-burning properties. Add some of these to all your smoothies and juices to boost your weight loss efforts.

Love-Your-Body Juice Recipe

4 Carrots
1/2 medium cucumber
1/4 to 1/2 small purple (red) cabbage, according to taste
6 white or purple cauliflower florets
1/2 Medium beet
3 Kiwi fruit
2 red apples
1 cup blueberries
Shredded coconut for added sweetness (optional)

Method:
  1. Discard carrot greens
  2. Wash all the ingredients
  3. Trim carrot ends
  4. Peel cucumber only if waxed. Cut into chunks
  5. Cut cabbage into chunks
  6. Peel kiwi fruit if you prefer. Halve
  7. Quarter apples. Don't peel, but discard seeds
  8. Juice all the ingredients (except coconut) and pour over crushed ice
  9. Stir in some shredded coconut if you wish
Servings:
3 Small to Medium

Juice To Lose Weight With Apples

We all grew up learning that 'an apple a day keeps the doctor away'. It is true that apples are superb for boosting and protecting health in general.

But did you know that this common fruit has been shown to help with fat metabolism? In fact, research shows that apples can play an important role in reducing the very dangerous visceral fat that gathers deep inside you around all your life-giving organs!

Another researcher, dr Christopher Adams of the University of Iowa, has been studying ursolic acid. Although studies on humans still need to be done, his research using mice indicates the ursolic acid may aid in preventing atrophy in muscles. It also seems to be helpful in reducing body fat, as well as in the control of cholesterol and blood sugar.

Apple peel is a superb source of ursolic acid. The compound is also found in cranberries, blueberries, plums and in herbs like thyme, mint, basil and oregano.

My 15 Top Weight Loss Tips!

While juice recipes for weight loss are great, they need some help to give you long term success. So, what else can you do?

Here are 15 of my top tips for losing weight without going on a 'diet'. Take your pick and work through them one at a time.


1. Kitchen 'Detox'...

Your first step should be to 'detox' your kitchen, rather than your own body! Here's exactly how:

I want you to be quite ruthless about this (but it can still be great fun!). No cheating allowed! It works best if you and a friend can help each other. Moral support often equals more motivation! You can first tackle your kitchen and then move the show to her home for her turn.

What I have in mind is what I call a 'TEST It, Then TOSS It' weekend.

How to do this?

You start by taking inventory of your fridge, your freezer and your pantry.

If a food or snack item doesn't pass the test of being a wholesome, one-ingredient food, isn't in a form your grandparents would have recognized or clearly is something that has been processed to death (usually with a long list of ingredients you can't decipher for the life of you!)...

...it gets TOSSED! No ifs, ands or buts.

If it's no longer in your kitchen, it can't land up on your hips or tummy now, can it? :-)

The good news is that you don't need to feel deprived at all! It is just about replacing those ever-present, beckoning temptations with smarter and healthier choices.

2. Learn To Read Labels...

After cleaning up your environment with your kitchen 'detox', keep it that way by making smart, common sense choices when grocery shopping. One of the most important things you can do, is to start reading food labels. If you can teach your kids to do the same, so much the better.

They will soon learn to say 'Yuck!' when they see listed ingredients like MSG, artificial sweeteners, butylated hydroxytoluene, partially hydrogenated oils or a preservative like sodium benzoate.

And remember that this goes as much for liquids as it does for solid foods!

Remember that if you opt for wholesome foods most of the time, a now-and-then splurge on that special fast-food treat you love is fine - without any guilt trip.


3. Follow My Three Main Food Shopping Rules...

  1. Choose one-ingredient foods, such as veggies, fruits, nuts, eggs, grass-fed meat sources, etc.
  2. Avoid all processed 'convenience' foods
  3. Cover the rainbow when buying fruits and veggies

4. Make Smart Food Choices When Eating

Just by reducing your intake of some 'hidden' or 'unnecessary' calories during the day, you can make a huge difference over a period of time! And this without feeling deprived at all.

5. Juice The Rainbow

Don't get into the habit of preparing the same juice day after day. Make sure that you rotate your fruits and veggies, so that you cover as wide a variety in your juice recipes as possible.

In this way, you will gain access to the widest spectrum of nutrients... all powerful allies if you need to drop some pounds.

The best way to do this is to try and get as many of the different color groups into your juicer each day. When shopping, choose...

  • green (spinach, kale, broccoli, etc.)
  • purple/blue (purple broccoli, purple cabbage, etc.)
  • red (beets, red bell peppers, red grapes, etc.)
  • orange/yellow (carrots, squash, citrus, etc.)
  • white (Bosc pears, white cauliflower, parsnips, etc.)

6. Don't Go Over The Top With Your Juicing

I don't believe in counting calories. Life is way too short for that!

However, when you start to juice, you need to remember that juices also come with a calorie count. So, don't go overboard. If you eat all your normal food and add a few glasses of juice, you may very well find yourself gaining weight, rather than losing it. Try to cut back just a tad on the size of your regular meals, in order to make room for the calories in the juice.

I normally recommend that you don't drink more than 8oz to 16oz of freshly made juice a day. This is one to two medium glasses.


7. Remember The 80/20 Rule

For the most part, you should focus on veggies when juicing. I do enjoy a fruit juice as a treat from time to time and it sure has its place in juicing, as Jay Kordich explains in the video below.

But normally colorful vegetables make up the bulk of what goes into our juices.

Keep in mind that veggies growing below ground, such as carrots and beets, are higher in sugar than those growing above ground. So make sure that you add a good spread to keep your sugar intake down.

Items like cucumber, zucchini and celery are superb for adding volume, without adding too much sugar.


8. Don't Skip Meals Because You Are In A Hurry

This one applies mainly to breakfast. What happens is that there is such an early morning rush getting everyone ready for the day, that there is no time to sit down for breakfast.

If this is what happens in your home, you will know that this probably means that you are so ravenous hy late morning that you grab anything that is available just to still your hunger. This is when there can be some serious piling up of calories.

9. Take The Edge Off Your Appetite

Over the years I have found that it can be helpful to enjoy a glass of juice about 20 minutes before your main meal. This will fill you up and should help you to be less ravenous when you finally get to the dinner table. The nutrient boost can also help to reduce food cravings, so that you are less likely to overeat.


10. Increase Your Activity Level

This doesn't necessarily mean an expensive gym membership. There are countless ways to bring little bits of extra activity into your day.

  • Put on some jazzy music and turn your vacuum cleaner into a dance partner
  • Go for a hike with the kids
  • Go biking
  • Take the dog for walk
  • Do some gardening
  • Play tennis
  • Fit in some energetic playtime with the kids
  • Turn television ad breaks into fun exercise time, involving the whole family.

Just be creative and see how many ways you can invent to raise activity levels.

11. Don't Fall For Common Diet Myths!

Diet myths abound and can contribute to weight gain if you are not careful...

12. Try My 2 'Secret' Tricks When The Munchies Strike

  • Drink a glass of water

Often when we feel like eating, it may actually only be our bodies needing some fluid. So, when that craving hits, first try to drink some water and then wait a few minutes. You will often find that this simple act stops a craving in its tracks.

  • Brush you teeth

Another of my secret weight loss tricks is to make sure that I always have my favorite, great-tasting, minty toothpaste available. When I start to feel peckish, I go and brush my teeth. Then I am far less likely to spoil that fresh feeling in my mouth by giving in to a craving. Just try this and see if it won't help you too!


13. Herbs And Spices For Weight Loss With Metabolic Cooking

One Last Juicing For Weight Loss Recipe For You!


Lean-With-Greens Juice

1 Green apple
1 Green pear
1 Cup berries (any kind)
4 Stalks celery
1/2 Medium cucumber
Handful baby spinach
Small handful parsley
1/2 Lime

Method:
  1. Wash all the ingredients
  2. Quarter pear and apple. Don't peel, but discard seeds
  3. Cut cucumber into chunks (peel only if not organic)
  4. Roll spinach into little balls
  5. Peel lime as thinly as possible, retaining white pith
  6. Juice, adding the parsley and spinach with the apples or celery
  7. Serve over crushed ice
Servings: 2 Small to medium
