When choosing between fruit juice and vegetable juice, it is all about balance. Of course fruit juices usually taste better, but always keep in mind that these come with a much higher sugar level. This causes a fairly rapid rise in blood sugar. If you have diabetes or a thrush problem, you need to limit your intake of fruit juice and preferably discuss your juicing program with your doctor.
Concentrate on vegetable juice if you are juicing for health and try to vary your intake, as each type has a unique range of nutrients. You should always aim for a balanced intake of vitamins, enzymes and minerals by juicing as colorful a range of produce as possible. Add fruits for taste, but don’t make them the main ingredient.
If you need to lose weight, vegetable juice is ideal, as it comes at a low calorie cost and is fat free.
If you are healthy, the natural sugar or fructose in fruits can’t harm you. It is easily assimilated. While it is high in sugar, it has a low glycemic index (GI), so it isn’t as harmful as far as glucose levels are concerned, as table sugar. You can always dilute fruit juices with water, to lessen your sugar intake. This is also a good idea if you are dealing with children.
