Juice Recipes And Secrets For Staying Young - Easy Steps To Keep You Younger For Longer!

 

Would you like to start celebrating your ticking body clock, rather than live in fear of it? Would you like to know what you can do to stay as young as possible in body, mind and spirit?

Much of this has to do with your general nutrition, which is where juicing can be a huge help. Lower down in the article I will give you some specific fruits and veggies to keep in mind, plus two delicious juice recipes.

Apart from juicing, there are many other things that can be incorporated into your very own anti-aging plan...

Let's start with my 12 easy and general staying-young secrets:

1. Stock your kitchen with fresh, one-ingredient foods

Take a look at the labels of some of the foods you have in your kitchen. Is there a lengthy list of unpronounceable ingredients? If you can't understand the label, dump the product! Made-by-nature is best! Opt for fruit, veggies, berries, nuts, fresh eggs, fish, lean meat from grass-fed stock, etc. Refuse to choose foods filled with preservatives and other no-no's.

2. Find a form of exercise you can enjoy

Exercise benefits your body and mind in countless ways, including...

  • Helping to keep your bones strong and healthy for longer, preventing osteoporosis
  • Helping to improve your self image and body image
  • Increasing your lung capacity
  • Helps to keep you independent for longer.
  • Revving up your metabolism
  • Giving you more self-confidence

Did you know that you don't have to get weaker with age? It doesn't have to become more of a challenge to climb stairs or to get out of the bath. From the age of 30, we all begin to lose muscle. It is absolutely crucial to put the brakes on this process, by adding working with weights and building strength and suppleness with exercise.

This doesn't have to be formal exercise at a gym. You can choose activities you enjoy and even invite a friend to join you in the fun. You can then motivate each other. Be creative and experiment until you find something that fits into your schedule and is easy to sustain. Anything that gets you moving is a good start. If you are very unfit or have any ailment, speak to your doctor first to be on the safe side.

3. Start the new year by showing the baddies the door

I don't have to explain why smoking is bad for your both your health and your looks. It is one of the number one aging accelerators! Alcohol can also add to body fat, as it is high in calories. It may also dehydrate you and can even have a detrimental effect on your brain functioning.

But what about the health benefits in red wine? Don't worry, you can get still get this! Yes, you can get plenty of the same resveratrol that is in red wine, by adding red and purple grapes to your juice recipes! Resveratrol may help to slow down cellular aging.

4. Shoulders back!

Stand in front of the mirror and check out the difference between a sad, slumped posture and a tall, straight body. Not only does it look younger, but it makes you feel great! Just try it to experience the difference.

Remain aware of your posture and the way you walk. You are sure to look and feel more confident.

5. Don't step into the fad diet trap

These just don't work! By starving yourself, you will only look way older and more drawn. If you eat a variety of healthy, wholesome foods in moderation moderately, with a treat thrown in now and then, and you exercise regularly, you won't ever need to diet.

6. Hydrate yourself

Many of us often think we are hungry, when our bodies are actually just begging for some clear, fresh water. Make sure that you drink enough water during the day. Remember that your juice and caffeine-free teas also count! Things like cucumber and watermelon are superb for adding healthy fluids, particularly during warm weather.

7. Get enough quality sleep

Getting enough sleep is one of the top secrets to staying young. As a bonus, adequate sleep could also help you to keep your weight down! Sleep is crucial when it comes to hormonal balance, which in turn plays an important role in slowing down the aging process.

If you can, try to sleep on your back. A pillow placed under your knees can help. Try some gentle stretching exercises before bedtime and make an effort to relax. Deep breathing can help. Your skin will also benefit from this routine.

8. Relax!

Find ways to cut down on daily stress. Practice relaxation or meditation exercises on a daily basis. Concentrate on deep breathing. Try to live in the moment. Worries about tomorrow are of no use and will only ruin your efforts to stay young.

9. Brush your body

Have a quality body brush in the bathroom and give yourself a good, invigorating brush before your bath or shower. This stimulates your blood circulation, helps your body to detox and best of all, it gives you a soft, smooth skin.

It may take some time to get used to this. Don't be too rough on yourself at first. If you have any skin condition, check with your doctor first, before you try this one.

10. Don't forget to give your brain a workout as well

Try to remain as active mentally as possible. Don't just veg out in front of the television. Tackle new challenges. Learn a new skill. Take up a new hobby. Do crossword puzzles. This will also set an excellent example for your kids.

11. Limit your intake of foods that accelerate aging

This new article by well-known nutrition specialist Mike Geary explains how 4 common foods can contribute to the aging process. Even if you don't want to cut these out entirely, try to reduce your intake of them.

12. Juice and eat these to keep body, brain and skin younger!

Brightly colored bell peppers
Blueberries
Blackberries
Strawberries
Red or purple grapes
Beetroot
Purple cabbage
Black currents
Eggplant or aubergine
Cranberries
Broccoli
Green cabbage
Green and purple kale
Carrots
Tomatoes
Apricots
Papaya
Pink grapefruit
Spinach
Watermelon
Cantaloupe or melon
Pineapple
Mango
Kiwifruit
Sweet potatoes
Radish

The brighter the colors of the fruits or veggies, the better for you in terms of helping to keep aging at bay. Color in fruits and veggies tells you that they are rich in nutrients and phytonutrients that are ready to play an extremely powerful antioxidant role in your body! Antioxidants are crucial for slowing down the aging process in your whole body and your skin.

Also remember to retain the skins of fruits and vegetables wherever possible.

13. Other must-have healthy foods

A few other goodies that can be helpful...

  • Olive oil
  • Eggs for collagen-supporting lean protein, plus lutein and zeaxanthin
  • Edamame (green or immature soybeans)
  • Oily fish such as salmon, for inflammation-calming omega-3 fatty acids
  • Add sunflower seeds to salads
  • Nuts, including almonds and brazil nuts
  • Limited amounts of coffee
  • Dark chocolate in small quantities - the darker the better

Berry Anti-Aging Cocktail

This juice is not just anti-aging in general due to the anthocyanin and other powerful antioxidants in it, but blueberries have been shown to be particularly useful when it comes to protecting brain cells from aging. In fact, blueberries may even help to reverse age-related brain issues.

2 Cups blueberries (or a mix of berries)
1 Apple
1 Pear
1 Kiwifruit
1/2 Yellow bell pepper
Optional: 4 Mint leaves

Method:

  1. Wash all your ingredients carefully
  2. Remove any stray stems or leaves from the berries
  3. Quarter the apple and pear. Discard seeds, but don't peel
  4. Halve the kiwifruit. You can remove the skin if you prefer
  5. Juice the berries and then the other ingredients, adding the mint with the apple or pear
  6. Pour over crushed ice and garnish with extra mint leaves

Super-Veggie Mix Juice

6 Carrots
1/2 Red bell pepper
5 Baby spinach leaves
1/2 Medium beetroot
1 Bunch purple grapes
4 Broccoli florets
1 Apple
Optional: 1/2 Lime (can be juiced with peel)

Method:

  1. Discard carrot and beetroot greens
  2. Wash all the ingredients
  3. Trim carrot ends
  4. Cut bell pepper into chunks
  5. Roll spinach into tight balls before juicing
  6. Trim beetroot ends and cut into chunks
  7. Remove grapes from stem
  8. Quarter apple. Discard seeds, but don't peel
  9. Juice and enjoy! Lime can add extra zing to this juice

Aging is an inevitable part of life, but we can all do our bit to age gracefully and in good health as far as possible. It is all about taking responsibility and making smart choices when it comes to nutrition, exercise and our general wellbeing.
