Now that you know how to pick a pineapple that is ripe, you are ready to learn how to peel a pineapple and how to cut up a pineapple for juicing.
Before you can get to those amazing pineapple juice benefits, you have to get rid of that nasty-looking, prickly skin! Looks like a daunting task? Don't worry! It is not that difficult! You can even get a pineapple cutter if you wish, but we manage fine with just a cutting board and a sharp, serrated knife.
How To Peel A Pineapple And How To Cut A Pineapple
Step 1
Place the pineapple on its side. Remove the leaves by wrapping your hand around them and twisting them off. Alternatively, you can use your knife to cut them off.
Step 2
Remove the top by cutting roughly a 1cm (1/3 to 1/2 inch) section from the top part of the pineapple.
Step 3
Some folks cut the bottom section away in the same way. I prefer to leave it to give me a firmer base for the rest of the process.
Step 4
Stand the fruit upright on its base.
Step 5
Take your serrated knife and rest it on the top part of the pineapple, slightly behind one of the "eyes" (the brownish protrusions that cover the fruit). Slice down firmly right to the bottom, following the curve of the fruit. Continue in this way right around the fruit, turning the pineapple after each slice. The base will help you to keep a firmer grip on the fruit, as the peeled fruit can be quite slippery!
The beauty of juicing a pineapple is that you won't lose as much of the fruit, as when you are preparing a salad. If you are going to juice the pineapple chunks, you won't have to worry about removing all those brown 'eyes'. If some of them remain in the fruit, it doesn't matter.
Step 6
This step depends on the power of your juicer and the size of the feeding chute. Thanks to the generously sized feeding chute of my Breville Juice Fountain machine, I can simply place the pineapple back on its side and cut it into big chunks, core and all. You will know what your juice extractor can handle. If the core is very hard, you may to cut it out as well, but most of the time this won't be necessary.
Getting to grips with how to peel a pineapple and how to cut a pineapple up? You are now ready to prepare your own pineapple chunks and run them through your juicer, together with a variety of healthy veggies. Enjoy!
