She was able to tell me what greens are toxic also; I did not know that carrot greens were toxic! This is really important to a newbie such as myself. So, you are like me and love juicing!

But what to do with juicer pulp? Can you use the pulp from your juicer in some way? Surely there must be a recipe for left-over apple or carrot pulp?

If you have a decent juicer, the left-over pulp will be fairly dry and tasteless.

So, do you simply throw it away?

Many folks do, but there are a variety of uses for it if you can't tolerate simply tossing it!

What To Do With Juicer Pulp?

  1. If you want to try to use it, but can't do so immediately, you can freeze the pulp in plastic bags. Take from the freezer as needed. A few drops of lemon juice added to the pulp, will keep the colors brighter.
  2. Love gardening? Your garden will probably relish the left-over pulp. Add it to your compost and watch your plants thrive.
  3. Did you know that you could use the pulp when baking treats for your pets? They love it in dog biscuits!
  4. You can add a bit of pulp to yogurt for extra fiber. Sweetened with honey, this can taste great.
  5. Many of the juicing books on the market come packed with recipes for using pulp.
  6. Chuck some into all your sauces, dips and soups for extra fiber and goodness.
  7. Preparing savoury muffins or breads? Try adding a bit of celery or tomato pulp for extra flavor.
  8. Apple and carrot pulp is superb in cakes and muffins.
  9. Add flavor and fiber to meatloaf and hamburger mixes by adding left-over pulp.
  10. Don't add too much at first. Experiment with small amounts (just a tablespoon or two), until you get a good idea of what works and what isn't so great.
  11. Frozen fruit ice lollies can become more healthy if you add a bit of fruit pulp, such as that left over from juicing your berries.
  12. Add fruit pulp to fruit sauces.

Apple And Carrot Pulp Muffins Recipe

1 Teaspoon salt
1 to 1 1/2 Teaspoons cinnamon, according to taste
1/2 Teaspoon nutmeg
2 Teaspoons baking soda
2 Cups wholewheat flour
4 Eggs
2 Teaspoons vanilla
1/2 Cup oil
3/4 Cup apple sauce
3/4 Cup sugar (yellow or brown)
1 Cup carrot pulp
1 Cup apple pulp
1 Cup chopped walnuts or pecan nuts

  1. Grease a muffin pan (the mixture is enough for roughly a dozen muffins)
  2. Preheat oven to 180 degrees Celsius (350 degrees Fahrenheit)
  3. Mix salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, flour and baking soda together and keep to the side
  4. Beat the 4 eggs together
  5. Mix the sugar, oil, apple sauce and vanilla together
  6. Add the beaten eggs to the apple sauce mixture
  7. Lightly mix in the pulp and nuts
  8. Carefully add the dry ingredients to the mixture
  9. Spoon into muffin pan and bake for 20 to 25 minutes
  10. Cool on a wire rack
  11. For a special occasion, you can ice the muffins with your favorite carrot cake icing
I don't worry too much about what to do with juicer pulp. I know that I have already extracted most of the nutrients from it via my juicer. That is the most important thing. I still eat fruits and veggies and also get fiber in other ways, so the extra nutrients in my juices is of far greater importance than the fiber that is lost in the process!
